my mother and email…
OK, this is the 2nd entry for today because I am still working out all of the kinks with this. I will figure it out! I wrote a very long and meaningful (what I thought would be) first entry and now it is located to the right on my home page under ‘pages’…if you would like to read. I meant to put it under ‘posts’ but did not. So here is my first official rant. I love my mother but I also have a sister and from time to time we jump on her back and ride her relentlessly for the things she does. We think it is funny. She says we are making fun.  Well, we are. It is 9:16 in the morning. I am trying to work on this, enjoy my coffee, and tune out the sound of children (lovely as it is) and I have already received 8 emails from her. Now, mind you, these are not emails she has written to me. These are things that her friends have sent to her and she is forwarding on to people. Here are my observations about her morning: First of all, she has been at her mountain house with company and not checked her email in days.  She did this morning. Now she is forwarding everything she deems worthy on to others.  Who are the others? Well, this is another interesting observation. If you look in the address bar, she sends instructional, life saving tips (like the one about not talking on your cell phone while pumping gas) to all of her children and closest friends. Hellooooo…that one is old and I have already received it from you and the other teachers at school 217 times.Â
Then she sends the ones with wrist-slitting music and pictures (Ecclesiastes 3 was this morning’s jewel sans The Birds singing it) to all of her best friends, friends with delinquent adult children, and my sister and me. (she sometimes places herself in the ‘parent of adult delinquent children’ category).  Needless to say, we reply to each other (my sister and I) and crucify her for this.  That and the fact that she sent 3 out of the 8 emails twice. Her total by 9:21? 11.
Don’t think I am a terrible person. I am glad that she is email savvy for the most part. It keeps her in touch with her friends.  Even the ones that live one block away and she could shout to with the door open.  They are so proud of their “coolness”.Â
I will get off of her back now, and save her latest techno-communication ’skillz’ for the next rant: text messaging. Umm, yes, she TEXTED me the other morning at 7:00. Her message? “Good morning! Call me when you are up!”. At least it was not followed by a ” :-)”. I would not even know where to begin with that one…
